Armrest requires a little patience and creativity

We replaced all of the seat components on the drivers seat of our 2012 Chevrolet Express van. The factory armrest has the upholstery adhered directly to the foam, so you can't remove and replace the old cover. To shore up the damage to the arm rest foam, I used some clean wool socks to cover the old armrest, and slid the new cover over the outer sock cover. Without adding material to the existing arm rest, you will have slack in the cover.

Removing and reinstalling the arm rest from the seat is difficult -- you need to slide the seat back cover UP to access the c clip retainer inside the seat. Reinstalling the arm rest took the longest out of the entire process --it is a slow process of malleting the armrest pin into the seat back until you can see the groove that the c retainer clips onto.

Ultimately, very happy with the results. Selling a factory-like armrest assembly would probably be an easier repair, but the price is right with just the cover. Would do it again!

Nice!

The hardest thing about the job was getting the armrest off the seat. The Cover fit great, I was very happy with the job. PS thanks for the videos.

Glad we could help! Enjoy your new armrest!

Replacement arm test cover. GMC Savana

Color match is good. Material match is good. Matching seams are good. Added zipper closure works well.

2 issues that I experienced. One point off for each.

First, the fitment is loose of the replacement cover. I slipped it over the existing arm rest cover and added a few layers of cotton fabric to the zipper closure area to add some volume. The end result is acceptable but the fitment is still loose enough I can pinch up material in most locations.

Second, a cutout / doubling of fabric would be useful to accommodate the 90 degree radius that accepts a pin on the seat limiting the upper/ lower arm rest travel. I did the cutout myself but that worsened the loose fabric fitment. Thus I added contact cement to the rotating pin and cutout area to stabilize the fabric.

Overall I like the product and the purchase process.

Perfect!

I installed the armrest cover as part of a lower seat rebuild. The old armrest was cracked on the top and would pinch my skin and grab the hair on my arm. New cover brings back the new and it seems like the material is actually a heavier grade than the original.
